Chicago's Urban Square Lofts Reimagined with Kitsap

Union Square Lofts at 333 West Hubbard in Chicago, Illinois, has long been valued for its urban character and walkable location. Recently, the community set out to enhance its shared outdoor spaces, creating modern, welcoming amenities with integrated seating for residents.

Jacobs/Ryan Associates designed a refreshed courtyard that emphasizes clean architectural lines, warm materials, and flexible gathering areas for everyday use. For spacemaking and introducing greenery, they selected Tournesol’s Kitsap Modular Aluminum Planter Walls, adding sculptural structure and shaping the flow of the environment. Custom piano-key benches, crafted from thermally modified wood and mounted to the planter walls, create a smooth, rhythmic sequence of seating throughout the courtyard. The aluminum walls are finished in Cedar Bronze, a warm, elegant powder coat that complements the building’s architecture.

INTRINSIC LANDSCAPE, INC. accomplished the installation with precision, ensuring every detail matched the design intent and served the community’s needs.

The result is a contemporary outdoor retreat, an elevated, comfortable amenity where residents can gather, relax, and enjoy thoughtfully designed urban living.
