Healing Spaces and Design at Nationwide Children's Hospital

Nationwide Children’s Hospital, one of the country’s largest pediatric behavioral health centers, was designed to be more than a place of treatment, it’s a setting for comfort, healing, and connection.

To help bring this vision to life, NBBJ architects  specified custom site furnishings to create a welcoming and safe environment for patients, families, and visitors. Tournesol manufactured custom benches from thermally modified wood, selected for its warmth, durability, and ability to withstand the rigors of a high-use healthcare setting. By uniting wood craftsmanship with precision steel engineering, our custom benches preserve the design story this project while undergoing rigorous structural analysis and fabrication to ensure aesthetic integrity and real-world performance.

Installed across the hospital’s enclosed rooftop terraces and courtyard, these custom benches provide welcoming spaces for rest, reflection, and therapy. Blending natural beauty with lasting performance, they enhance the outdoor experience and embody NBBJ’s thoughtful design, supporting a healing environment at one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals.
