Rooftop Retreat at the Plaza Hotel
El Paso, TX
Perched on the 17th floor of the historic Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park in El Paso, TX, the rooftop lounge offers guests a stunning panorama of the city and surrounding mountains— made more inviting with a refined, modern landscape design.
Designed by landscape architects from Cooper Carry’s Midtown Atlanta office, the rooftop features Tournesol's custom, lightweight GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) planters and benches, installed by Jordan Foster Construction. Engineered to complement the space’s upscale, Southwestern character, the planters connect seamlessly and form expansive planting areas designed to soften the rooftop’s edge and integrate nature into the lounge environment. Integrated around the planters, seating offers guests relaxed spots to take in the view, while drought-tolerant plantings add texture and color without requiring excess maintenance in the desert climate. Since the GFRC planters are lighter in weight than concrete, the custom planters won't overload the rooftop structure—a notable feat in a historic renovation.
This rooftop retreat seamlessly blends modern materials, innovative design, and local sensibility, transforming an open-air space into a signature experience for Plaza Hotel guests.
